What is a named Scholarship? A named scholarship is established in your name or the name of a loved one, and made in honor or in memory of someone. The scholarships are used toward tuition and fees for students at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School. Donors who would like to enroll in the Named Scholarship Program are asked to commit to a minimum of $500 annually for a three-year cycle (total gift of $1,500). The scholarships are used for tuition assistance for students currently enrolled in the high school. Scholarships will be awarded on the level of financial need of the student, as determined by applications that have been submitted through the school. Those most in need will receive first priority in the awarding of scholarships. Money donated during an annual fund is awarded the following year.
Who gets the Scholarship? Scholarships will be awarded on a non-discriminatory basis and shall not be less than $500 per student. If the amount of the Named Scholarship contribution is greater than $500, a donor may choose to offer the additional scholarship of $500 to another student, or award the entire amount to one student. Scholarships will not be awarded to students for athletic purposes.
Special Requests Donors may make special requests on student qualifications, such as parish affiliation, or request that a student excel in a specific subject such as math or a language.
Due to government guidelines regarding charitable gifts, a contributor may not request that their gift be awarded to any family member of a specific individual, nor request that the same student receive the gift two years in a row.
